Ever get that wanderlust feeling? Jetting off and getting away from it all is super easy these days due to cheaper travel costs. While they might not be for everyone, gap year can be a great way to enhance your CV, learn about new cultures and meet new friends. We take a look at some of the best places to take a year out;

THAILAND

Without a doubt the most popular destination for gap year students, Thailand offers tropical beaches, beautiful waterfalls, stunning jungles and buzzing cities, it really is a traveller’s paradise. From epic parties to diving masterclasses, there is something for everyone in this idyllic country. Travel and accommodation range from super cheap to relatively expensive so make sur you do your homework before you go.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is the ideal place for adventurers and adrenaline junkies. With everything from hiking to bungee jumping, white water rafting and skydiving, your only problem will be when you have to come home! Staying out there is relatively easy, however, as you can get a season job as a snowboard instructor or work as an assistant in schools to help pay for your travel.

AUSTRALIA

For the first time traveller, Oz is a great initiation into the wide world of travelling. It’s perfect for adventure while keeping all the creature comforts of home.  If you are aged between 18-30 you can apply for a working holiday visa which will pay for your travel and living costs. Check out the Great Barrier Reef and Bondi Beach or if you prefer the idea of being remote, head to the outback and Uluru.

INDIA

Travel and accommodation costs do not get much cheaper than in India. It is possible to live for less than £200 a month in some places which makes it a hotspot destination for students and travellers alike. It would take a lot longer than a gap year to see all of India, so try to pick out a couple of destinations that you’d like to really get the experience of.

PERU

One of the most popular destinations in South America, Peru boasts some of the world’s finest archaeological sites, including Machu Picchu and the Nazca Lines. Head to the sacred Lake Titicaca and the Peruvian Amazon or indulge yourself in the unbeatable local cuisine.

BRAZIL

If you really like to party Brazil is the place for you. Coincide your trip with the Rio Carnival, or check out the amazing nightlife and live music all over the country. The Iguacu Falls are a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience, if beaches are more your thing then the 5,000 miles of beautiful coastline should do the trick!
